Dealing with Disappointment

It is hard to believe that the things you carefully planned for in life don’t always turn out the way you wanted them too. Sometimes people spend days or weeks preparing for their plans and it does not follow through, as a result people lose hope, get discourage, feel anxious or angry and in drastic cases fall into depression. Sometimes we are so focused on the end goal that we forget to enjoy the journey, or we get too caught up in future plans and feel lost when it doesn’t become reality. These times are inevitable, but there are things that we can do to prevent ourselves from  falling into dark places.

  • Change your course of action.

We can plan all we like, but sometimes things that are out of our control happen. In that case, roll with the punches, and adjust your plans so that you can better accommodate the new circumstances. Try not to dwell too much on the fact that things had to change so that you can accept your present as the new truth!

  • Try to amend the changes

Sometimes you will find that things are not set in stone the way you think they are. If you think that there is a chance you can change the results of an outcome, try to approach it with respectful intentions. What do I mean by that? I mean that you should be able to set your pride or emotions aside in order to approach whoever or whatever is in charge of your current situation so that you can respectfully ask for what you want. If denied, don’t get too upset. Try option one.

  • Embrace the changes

Don’t be too stuck in your plans! Sometimes things happen for a reason, you never know if better plans are awaiting you. Not all change is bad. Look at the positive side of every situation. There is that saying, “when one door closes, three new ones open”. Have a little faith and embrace the change, because new opportunities will always present themselves. If you show that you can handle change, people will take notice and see your growth, because, let’s face it, accepting and dealing with change is difficult.

  • Seek support

You are not alone, ask for help or seek support from trusted friends, family, or professionals! Depending on your circumstances, dealing with change can be a long, grueling process, especially if you cannot exercise self-control. Remember that you are surrounded by people who can either help you plan out something new, support you during difficult that time and/or help you get out of a sticky situation.

Life can be difficult, changes will occur, and at some point you will be disappointed by plans that did not follow through the way you wanted it to but just remember that there is always something you can do. Don’t fret or dwell on the negatives. You got this!
